Saturday 28 April: Partick & Scotstoun

Martin will be joining fellow Scottish Green Party members for their regular stall at the Partick Farmers' Market, from around 10am to 12pm this Saturday. Later in the day he will be canvassing in Scotstoun.

The Farmers' Market takes place at Mansfield Park, Hyndland Street, Dumbarton Road, Glasgow G11 6UN. Come along and meet Martin and find out in person what kind of MSP he would be for Glasgow Kelvin. (And bring some change as you're unlikely not to be tempted by all the wonderful treats on offer at the market!)

Friday 27 April: Critical Mass

Subject to his bike being back from the workshop, Martin will be joining the riders at George Square at 5.30pm today for Critical Mass promoting cyclist's place on the roads in Glasgow.

What's it all about?

Critical Mass is often described as an 'unorganised coincidence'. It happens when a lot of cyclists happen to be in the same place at the same time and decide to cycle the same way together for a while.

What's the purpose?

"Everyday, all over the world, people are resisting the problem culture of the car by getting on their bikes and riding, instead of driving. Critical Mass is a celebration of the alternatives to cars, pollution, accidents and the loss of public spaces and freedoms.

Not an organisation or group, but an idea or tactic, Critical Mass allows people to reclaim cities with their bikes, just by getting together and out-numbering the cars on the road."

Friday 27 April: Glasgow Community Care Providers Forum

Dr Martin Bartos will be representing the Scottish Green Party at the Glasgow Community Care Providers Forum (GCCPF) All Party Question Time. GCCPF is a membership organisation for providers (voluntary organisations, private care companies and registered social landlords) of health & social care services in Glasgow. Members of GCCPF provide round the clock services within a range of community, health & social care sectors such as homelessness, addiction, learning disability, older people, mental health and supported living.

The panel will also include: Johann Lamont (Scottish Labour Party), Katy Gordon (Scottish Liberal Democrats), Davena Rankin (Scottish Conservatives), Stewart Maxwell (SNP), Rosie Kane (Scottish Socialist Party), Tommy Sheridan (Solidarity) and Pat Lally (Scottish Senior Citizens Unity Party).

Charlie Barker of GCCPF said: "The focus of this meeting with local candidates will be to press for greater detail on how their parties propose to respond to the growing funding crisis many of our members are facing and the future value of vital care to the most vulnerable within our communities. Last week we heard that there will be no uplift for the 4th year in funding for Supporting People services in Glasgow and hundreds of charity workers are being consulted by Unison over possible strike action. There is also grave concern for organisations around the impact of the raid on the Lottery to fund the spiralling costs of the 2012 Olympics."

Tuesday 17 April: NHS Glasgow Board Meeting

Martin will be attending the bi-monthly board meeting of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde on 17 April 2007 at 9.30 a.m. in the Board Room, Dalian House, 350 St Vincent Street, Glasgow.

As an NHS doctor, Martin takes a close interest in public health and the provision of health care. His work greatly informs his attitude to social issues such as poverty, public transport and civil liberties.

NHSGG board meetings are open to the press and public, who may attend to observe the proceedings (unless the Board decides to exclude the public and press during consideration of confidential business).

Monday 16 April at 7.30pm – Public meeting against Tesco development in Partick

Dr Martin Bartos will join Martha Wardrop, Green Party candidate for Glasgow Council in the Hillhead Ward, and other concerned local residents at a public meeting about the proposed Tesco development in Partick. Greens have been opposed to the development plans from the outset and supported a broad community campaign against it.

To find out more about the development or join the protest against it, come along to Partick Burgh Halls at 7.30pm on Monday.
