Use ALL your votes to vote Green

In Glasgow Kelvin you can use all your votes to vote Green on May 3rd. In other parts of Glasgow you can still vote Green on the regional list for Holyrood, and for Green councillors to join Glasgow City Council.

    Glasgow Region

In the parliamentary elections on 3rd May, we're asking voters to give their party or regional vote (what used to be called the second vote) to the Greens. The Scottish Greens currently have one MSP in Glasgow: Patrick Harvie. Our top priorities in 2007 are to get Patrick re-elected and to get Rosemary Burnett elected to join him in Parliament, working to make a greener, fairer Glasgow.

Patrick Harvie was elected on 1st May 2003 as Glasgow's first Green MSP. He has worked hard as Glasgow's only Green MSP campaigning on air pollution, free schools meals, the erosion of civil liberties and the campaign to stop the M74 extension.

Patrick says:

  • Greens have made a real difference at Holyrood, acting as the conscience of the Scottish Parliament. I have worked on civil liberties, planning law and asylum and on campaigns to save our parks and safeguard our neighbourhoods. I have protested against the Iraq war, dawn raids and nuclear weapons but never irresponsibly on the floor of the Parliament Chamber.
  • Rosemary Burnett has always worked for environmental and social justice. Most recently, she was Programme Director Scotland for Amnesty International, having previously worked for Citizens Advice Scotland and Action Aid. She has also been Chair of Friends of the Earth Scotland and of the National Consumer Congress. As Glasgow's second Green MSP, Rosemary will work to see the establishment of a justice system which caters for the needs of victims as well as offenders, ensure that asylum seekers are not traumatised by dawn raids or inappropriate detention, and lobby for vocational as well as academic educational opportunities.

    Rosemary says:

  • As the mother of three boys and the grandmother of three more, the future of our planet is always something that has concerned me. We can all make our own contribution to cutting carbon emissions, but it needs strong and consistent action at government level, locally and globally, to make a real difference.
  • Glasgow City Council

For the first time, this year’s local authority elections are using proportional representation. The Scottish Green Party has candidates standing in every ward in Glasgow and we’re looking to bring a fresh, Green outlook to city politics.

First Vote Green for a candidate who will improve local democracy and accountability, create a neighbourhood-based local economy, improve public transport, support community health services, retain local schools and promote energy efficiency in new buildings.

Within Glasgow Kelvin, your local authority Green candidates are:

    Martha Wardrop (Hillhead)
    Nina Baker (Anderston/City)
    Stuart Clay (Partick West)
    Susan England (Garscadden/Scotstounhill)
